Summary and next steps

Executive summary 📋

We found several area of the function that are behind best practice, notably around team progression/development, training and onboarding of new hires.
However there are also several frameworks and easy wins that could alter this rapidly improve each of these categories.
We get the impression that you have a good understanding of where you want to make changes and have already started planning some of the improvements required.

Recommendations 💭

It’s really positive that you are already thinking about making improvements in these areas. However we advise giving more thought to the timing and communication of improvements.
The success factor for these projects is not whether the right systems are set up, but rather do they receive full adoption and buy in from the wider team. This takes time and planning.

Suggested next steps ✅

In our opinion the highest priority areas are
1) team development and progression and
2) hiring to onboarding systems
However rather than implementing new systems across the board at once, we recommend starting with a People roadmap that will embed sustainable, long term improvements every month
Starting with the values project would be an excellent starting point, informing the work to come and also getting the team bought in to the process.

Questions to discuss ❓

How much capacity do you have internally to spend managing the function? How does this fit in amongst other priorities?
To what extent do the future plans for the business impact the support needed from the people function?
Do you need help managing weekly tasks in order to focus on projects?
Is anyone else in the team helping to manage these responsibilities?

How we can help

It sounds like you’ve got a good grasp of where you want to be, but face a challenge in managing several competing priorities each week.
Adding a fractional PeopleOps Manager could help to:
ensure that the people roadmap advances every week, even when you don’t have time to focus on it
ensure that each stage is designed with team buy-in and sustainable improvement in mind
deal with operational tasks each week to give you back strategic thinking time
