Project Overview πŸ“‹

The Geo Design project is an online experience Intended to replicate an authentic geo design workshop in which students assume the role of a stakeholder tasked with collaborating with other stakeholders to reach a design decision that will benefit all stakeholders and their constituents. Workshops like these are a core part of in-person versions of GIS courses and the GIS industry. That is why we want to translate this crucial GIS experience for online students through the new Geo Design game.

This experience is being built for
Geo Design and Urban Planning (GIS 494/PUP494/GIS 598/PUP 598)
,
a PLUS Alliance course being taught by Dean Libby Wentz.

Problem
Currently there is already a Geo Design experience deployed in the course. However, this Geo Design experience was built in a software called Muzzylane and we have reached the limits of what the Muzzylane platform can offer. The UX of the current experience leaves a lot to be desired, the platform is very text-centric and we’d like a platform that focuses more on working with GIS data. For that reason we have opted to build our own experience using the game development engine Unity.

Background
In order to determine phases and features for future versions of the Geo design project the UX team hosted a design session where we identified emotions and actions we like to see in students as they progress through Geo Design, as well as potential features we’d like to implement and pain points we could potentially run into. Using this information we were able to synthesize a timeline and list of deliverables to help guide this project. More information on the
.

Goal
Focusing on elevating the technology, making the experience easier to use and overall make the experience more enjoyable for the students.
Increased retention
Increased engagement
Increased satisfaction

Learn More
Like mentioned above we will be taking a phased approach with this project. Review the phases below to learn more about our timeline and what will be delivered in each phase.

Description
Phase
1
Discuss assessment plan for Phase 1
How are we measuring these students and their out comes? When should we collect a baseline for our data?
POC
2
Discuss names for this experience.
We can’t keep calling this just geo design. it creates confusion as a geo design is a terms students use often, it’s also apart of the course name.
