Subjects

Subjects represent the academic areas taught in your school - like Mathematics, Science, or Arts - and play a key role in curriculum planning and reporting.

What can I do on this page?

Use this page to create and manage subjects for your school.
View all subjects created in your school, along with their associated department, levels, applicable grades, linked courses, and active/archived status.
Create a new subject by clicking the +New subject:
In a subject-based setup, subjects are core entities that standards, levels, and departments are directly linked to.
In a course-based setup, subjects are optional and are not the primary entity for standards, levels, or departments, which are linked directly at the course level.
Map the subject during creation:
In a subject-based setup, map the subject to the relevant Department, Levels, and Grades.
In a course-based setup, map the subject to the relevant Grades. Department and levels are mapped to courses in a course-based setup.
Manage existing subjects
Use the three-dot menu next to a subject to edit details, mark it as inactive, or delete it (if not in use).
Use the Status filter to switch between active and inactive/archived subjects.

Things to keep in mind

In a subject-based setup:
Courses must be tagged to at least one Subject during setup.
Each subject has its own set of learning standards used for planning and assessment.
Levels and Departments are associated with subjects.
Courses inherit Standards, Levels, and Departments through the subjects linked to them.
In a course-based setup:
Subjects are optional and primarily used for tagging.
Levels and Departments are linked directly to courses.
Courses have their own set of learning standards used for planning and assessment.
Subjects cannot be deleted if they are already in use. Mark them as inactive instead.
Archiving (making the subject inactive) a subject prevents it from being used in future courses while preserving existing data.
