Score-based grading evaluates student work using numeric or letter grades - like 85/100 or B+.
These scores are used to calculate final grades for each reporting period (e.g., Term 1) and, where applicable, cumulative grades (e.g., Semester 1), which appear in gradebooks and progress reports.
What can I do on this page?
Use this page to set up your school’s default score calculation rules.
Set up grading categories (optional): Use the toggle at the top to turn grading categories on or off. Off: All assignments contribute directly to the reporting period score. On: Assignments are grouped into categories (like Homework, Projects, or Quizzes), and category scores contribute to the reporting period score. If categories are enabled, choose how they behave: Weighted categories: Each category contributes based on the weight you assign
Example: Homework 20%, Quizzes 30%, Projects 50% Unweighted categories: Categories are used only for grouping; assignments still contribute directly to the final score These categories (with or without weights) can be applied consistently across all reporting periods or set up separately for each reporting period, depending on your school’s needs. Set how the reporting period scores are calculated: Define how scores are calculated for each reporting period (such as a term or quarter). Average: All assignments contribute equally Proportional to max score: Higher-point assignments carry more weight Weighted average: Assignments use custom weights Absolute / weight-based (e.g., 43/50) Set up cumulative grading (optional): If your school reports cumulative scores across multiple terms (e.g., Semester 1 includes Term 1 and Term 2), configure how these are calculated. Use grading period scores: Each grading period contributes a set weight (e.g., Term 1 = 40%, Term 2 = 60%) Use all assignments: Final score is based on all tasks from both terms Decimal settings
Set how cumulative scores should appear, using the same rounding/truncation and decimal preferences. Things to keep in mind
These are school-level default settings that apply to all subjects/courses by default. Any new subject/course will inherit these settings. If needed, you can override them later at a Course or Subject and Grade level under Course/Subject-wise configurations. To learn more about how to set up score-based grading, check out .
