To begin:
Go to your class on Toddle. From the left navigation panel, select ‘Gradebook’. The ‘Assessment gradebook’ displays all assessments created for the class in a clear, tabular format. Each column represents an assessment (such as a formative assessment, homework, or unit test), and each row represents a student in your class.
Within each column, you can view:
Student roster: The first column lists all active students. Archived students are hidden by default but can be included using filters.
Assignment columns: Each column in the gradebook represents a task or assessment you’ve created. Within these columns, you can view:
Assignment details – the name of the task and its due date. Task type – such as formative (FA), summative (SA), or other types. Grading category – if the task has been tagged under a category (e.g., homework, projects). Evaluation status – whether the evaluation for a task is pending, completed, or shared. Calculated grades: These summary columns display totals, such as the Overall score. The information displayed here will depend on your school’s grading setup.
Customize your gradebook view
You can tailor your gradebook to display the information most relevant to you. Use the options at the top of your gradebook to filter and adjust your view.
Grading period selector
Switch between grading periods to view relevant assessments. By default, the gradebook opens to the current period.
Note: This is the most important filter, as it determines which assignments and calculated grades are visible.
Subjects filter
This filter will only appear if your school has a subject-based setup.
Use the subjects filter to view assessment data for a specific subject. The gradebook always opens to the first subject in your list (for example, ‘English’). You can select a different subject from the dropdown to view only its tasks and calculated grades.
Note: The subjects filter will only appear if a course is tagged with multiple subjects, and only the subjects tagged to that course will be shown in the dropdown.
Filters menu
Click the funnel icon to open advanced filtering options. You can filter your view based on assignment types, assessment tools, grading categories, and students.
Assignment types: Filter by different task types. Assessment tools: Show only assignments evaluated with a specific tool, or choose all tools. Grading categories: Filter tasks based on the assessment categories they are tagged to. This helps you analyze student performance by task type. Note: The availability of this filter depends on your other selections. It will only appear if the selected grading period has categories defined by your administrator, and it is not available if you have selected a cumulative grading period.
Students: Narrow your view to specific students for focused analysis. Archived students, if any, are unselected by default. Display options
In addition to filters, you can tailor your gradebook layout using display options:
Configure gradebook views 1 - Configure gradebook views
Click the three-dot menu → 'Configure gradebook views'. This opens a settings panel with the tab: 'Configure columns'

Select Full name, First name, or Last name from the dropdown, and use the direction toggle to switch between ascending and descending order. Student display details: Choose additional information to show beneath each student’s name in the roster. Toggle on Student UID and Email ID as needed. The remaining options are organized under two tabs: Assessments and Standards, and apply to those views, respectively:
Assessments tab
Assessment details: Select exactly what data appears for each assignment. You can toggle the visibility of the Assignment date (choosing specifically between Due date, Creation date, or Open date), as well as the Assignment type, Grading category, and Evaluation status. Highlight cells: Enable color highlights to visually track submission and evaluation progress across the gradebook. You can choose to highlight Late submissions, Not submitted tasks, Submission overdue, or Submission pending. Sort assessments by: Arrange tasks within the grid according to your preference. Options include sorting by Open date (Earliest or Farthest first), Due date (Earliest or Farthest first), or Creation date (Oldest or Newest first). Category view: Control how categories are presented by choosing to Group by categories or Show category with the assignment name. Show tasks that are excluded from the final calculation: Display tasks marked as excluded from the overall grade. Show tasks from other classes: Include assignments carried over from another class of the same subject. Standards tab
The Standards tab contains display options specific to the Standards gradebook. Refer to the for full details. Tip: Filters and display settings are retained when you navigate away and return to the gradebook. They also carry over across all your classes.
View and interpret grades
The ‘Assessment gradebook’ automatically calculates scores and grades based on the grading configuration defined by your school.
To view your grading configuration:
Go to ‘Settings’ in the bottom-left corner of your class page.
If your school uses a subject-based setup, select ‘Subject settings’ and choose your subject. If your school uses a course-based setup, select ‘Course settings’. In both setups, you should check the ‘Grading configurations’ tab, where you can review:
Grading methodology: View the grading methodologies used (such as Score/letter-based grading or Standards-based grading). Score calculation setup: See how student scores are calculated—including assessment categories, their weights, and any cumulative grading period settings. Standard calculation setup: Lists the grade scales used for standard sets and shows the vertical and horizontal calculation methods. Final grade: Shows how final grades are calculated for the course/subject, for each grading period. Note: You can edit grading configurations only if you have the ‘Course editor’ role. To learn more about how the grading setup works, refer to our . Interpret grades for a reporting period
Use the gradebook to analyze student performance across individual assessments, grading categories, and overall reporting periods. You can access detailed score breakdowns and historical insights all within a few clicks.
1. View evaluations for a specific assessment
Click on any cell in the gradebook to open a panel on the right. Here, you can:
View evaluations for all assessment tools attached to the task, such as scores, rubrics, checklists, and comments. Read any comments or notes entered for the student. This view allows you to quickly confirm how the student was evaluated for a specific assignment.
2. View breakdown for category or term-level scores
Click on a calculated grade, such as a Score for an assessment category or Overall score for the reporting period, to open a detailed breakdown panel.
You will see:
A complete list of all tasks that contributed to that score. The score received in each task. Note: Overall scores for grading periods and categories are calculated only if the corresponding setting has been enabled in the grading setup by the admin.
3. Understand how grade conversions are applied
Overall scores for the subject/course can be converted into one or more grades as per the grade scales defined by your school administrator. These could be alpha or numeric grade scales. You can open the right pane to view the grade scale.
To see which grade scales have been applied for the grading period and how they convert scores into final grades, go to the ‘Settings’ → ‘Subject settings’/’Course settings’.
Interpret grades for a cumulative grading period
You can switch to a cumulative grading period to review student progress across multiple terms or exams. This view provides a consolidated summary of overall growth and performance.
Cumulative grades are calculated automatically based on the grading setup defined by your school administrators. The gradebook displays summary columns for each reporting period included in the cumulative calculation, helping you see how each term or exam contributed to the final score. You can review the grade scales applied for the cumulative grading period, including how scores convert into grades, by going to the ‘Settings’ → ‘Subject settings’/’Course settings’.
This view is especially useful for end-of-semester reviews, generating report cards, and supporting student-led conferences.
Evaluate assignments and share grades with students and family
The Gradebook allows you to evaluate student work and manage how grades are shared with students and families.
There are two ways to do this:
1. From the assignment popover – Click the assignment name in the Gradebook header to open a quick-access pop-up for grading and evaluation actions.
2. From the three-dot menu – Click the three-dot icon next to the assignment name to access options for evaluation and assignment management.
Note: Only teachers with Gradebook edit permissions can perform these actions. Options appear disabled with a tooltip if your access is view-only.
