How can I view planning insights for the MYP curriculum?

Planning insights on Toddle help you understand how units, standards, and learning goals are planned across departments, grades, classes, and courses. These insights make it easy to identify gaps and ensure every student experiences a well-planned curriculum.

Navigate to planning insights

To access planning insights, navigate to your school homepage and select Planning insights.

On the Planning insights landing page, you will see the following sections in the left sidebar:
School insights: Provides a school-wide overview of curriculum coverage. Within this section, you can explore insights across all MYP years on:
Approaches to Learning — with a course count, unit count, and task count
Global contexts and Learner profile attributes — with a course count and unit count
Custom datasets — with a course count and unit count (if enabled)
View by department: View insights for each subject group, including:
All units planned across MYP years, with associated planning elements
Programme of Inquiry overview across Global contexts
Standards coverage, with associated courses, associated units, tasks planned, and tasks taught
Approaches to Learning, Key concepts, and Learner profile attributes — with a course count, unit count, and task count
Global contexts — with a course count and unit count
Related concepts and Objectives — with a course count, unit count, and task count
Custom datasets — with a course count and unit count (if enabled)
View by grade: View insights for each MYP year, including:
All units planned across subject groups, with associated planning elements
Standards coverage, with associated units, tasks planned, and tasks taught

View by course: View insights for each course, including:

View by student: View the planned curriculum for each student based on their enrolled classes, including:
All units the student is engaged in, with associated planning elements
Standards coverage, with associated courses, associated units, tasks planned, tasks taught, and tasks assessed
Approaches to Learning and Learner profile attributes — with associated courses, associated units, tasks planned, tasks taught, and tasks assessed
Global contexts — with associated courses and associated units
Timeline of units across the academic calendar
Custom datasets — with associated courses and associated units (if enabled)
Note: View by student is available to school administrators only.
At the bottom of the sidebar, you will find Manage courses and units, which allows you to configure which courses and units are included in planning insights.

School insights

The School insights page gives you a school-wide view of curriculum coverage. It displays insight cards for Approaches to Learning, Global Contexts, Learner profile attributes, and any custom datasets enabled for planning insights.

Approaches to learning

The Approaches to learning (ATL) table shows how ATL skills are distributed across all MYP years.
Rows represent ATL skill categories and their sub-skills
Columns represent MYP years (MYP 1–5) plus a Total courses column showing unique coverage across the programme
Use the toggle at the top of the table to switch between count modes:
Course count: how many courses include each skill
Unit count: how many units include each skill
Task count: how many assessments and learning experiences address each skill
Use the following controls:
Use the search bar to find a specific ATL skill.
Click any count to open a pop-up listing the contributing units or tasks.
Expand any ATL skill row to view its sub-skills.
Use Configure columns to show or hide specific MYP year columns.
To explore other school-level insights, use the dropdown next to the section title.

Global contexts

The Global contexts table shows how the 6 MYP Global Contexts are distributed across all MYP years.
Rows represent the 6 Global Contexts
Columns represent MYP years (MYP 1–5) plus a total count column
Use the toggle to switch between Course count and Unit count. Use the search bar to find a specific Global Context.

Learner profile attributes are tracked in the same way as ATL skills: the table shows a course count, unit count, and task count across all MYP years. Click any count to view the contributing courses, units, or tasks.
Note: Custom datasets appear in the dropdown alongside Global contexts and follow the same view, showing a course count and unit count only. Task counts are not available for custom datasets. Custom datasets must be enabled by a school administrator and included in planning insights calculation.

View by department

View by department lets coordinators and department heads analyze how a specific subject group addresses curriculum elements across all MYP years. The landing page displays all subject groups as cards. Click any card to open the detailed view for that department.

Unit

The Unit tab shows all units within the selected department across all MYP years. The left panel lists all grade levels and courses within the department. The main table displays one row per unit with its full set of template fields, including any custom fields your school has added.
Use the following controls:
Use the search bar to find a unit by keywords.
Use Filters to narrow units by subject or grade.
Use Sort to sort classes and units alphabetically, by created date, or by last modified date. You can also choose to apply your sorting preference across all unit insight views.
Use Configure columns to show or hide and reorder unit information.
Click any unit title to open the full unit planner.
Note: To explore insights for other departments, use the dropdown next to the department title to switch departments.

Programme of Inquiry

The Programme of Inquiry tab provides a snapshot of how units are planned across IB-defined Global Contexts for each course within the department.
Rows represent courses in the department
Columns represent the 6 MYP Global Contexts
Each cell shows the units planned under that Global Context for the course, along with the number of weeks allocated
You can expand any cell to see detailed information for each unit, including the Statement of Inquiry, Key Concepts, and Related Concepts. Click any unit name to open the full unit page.

Standards

The Standards tab provides visibility into how subject-specific standards are addressed across grades through courses, units, and class tasks. The left panel lists all subjects within the department. Use it to switch between subjects and view the standards specific to each one. Rows represent individual subject standards.
For each standard or sub-standard, you can track:
Associated courses: the number of courses that address the standard
Associated units: the number of units aligned to the standard
Tasks planned: the count of draft assessments not yet assigned to students
Tasks taught: the count of assessments assigned to students
Use the search bar to find a specific standard. Use Configure columns to show or hide or reorder information in the table.

The Global contexts tab shows how the 6 MYP Global Contexts are addressed across the department’s units.
Rows represent the 6 MYP Global Contexts
Columns represent MYP years
Each cell shows the course count or unit count for that Global Context in that year
Use Filters to narrow by subject within the department. Use the toggle to switch between Course count and Unit count. Click any count to view the contributing courses or units.

Related Concepts

The Related Concepts tab shows how subject-specific Related Concepts are addressed within the department. Use the sidebar to switch between subjects; the table updates to show the Related Concepts specific to the selected subject.
Rows represent Related Concepts for the selected subject
Columns represent MYP years
Each cell shows the course count, unit count, or task count for that concept in that year
Use the toggle to switch between count modes. Click any count to view the contributing courses, units, or tasks.

Key concepts are tracked in the same way as ATL skills: each concept shows a course count, unit count, and task count across MYP years. Use Filters to narrow by subject within the department. Learner profile attributes follow the same structure. Objectives are tracked in the same way as Related Concepts: use the sidebar to switch between subjects within the department to view the objectives specific to each subject.
Note: Custom datasets follow the same view as Global contexts, showing a course count and unit count only. Task counts are not available for custom datasets. Custom datasets must be enabled by a school administrator and included in planning insight calculations.

View by grade

View by grade gives you a horizontal view of the student experience at a specific MYP year, showing how curriculum elements are addressed across all subject groups. The landing page displays all grade cards. Click any grade card to open the detailed view for that year.

Unit

The Unit tab shows all units planned at the selected MYP year across all subject groups. The left panel lists all subject groups and their courses at the selected grade level.
Use the following controls:

Global contexts

The Global contexts tab shows how Global Contexts are distributed across all subject groups at the selected MYP year.
Rows represent the 6 MYP Global Contexts
Columns represent subject groups or individual subjects, depending on your Toggle selection
Use the toggle to switch between department and subject views. Use the course count/unit count toggle to switch between count modes. Click any count to view the contributing courses, units, or tasks.

Learner profile attributes are tracked in the same way as ATL skills: each attribute shows a course count, unit count, and task count across the selected MYP year. Click any count to view the contributing courses, units, or tasks.
Note: Custom datasets follow the same view as Global contexts, showing a course count and unit count only. Task counts are not available for custom datasets.

View by course

View by course provides a detailed view of planning and coverage within a specific course. The landing page lists all courses in your school with their subjects and classes. Use the search bar or filters to narrow the list by subject, grade, or status (active or archived).
Click any course name to open its detailed view. The tabs available are:
