Planning insights on Toddle help you understand how units, standards, and learning goals are planned across departments, subjects, classes, and courses within each DP year group. These insights make it easy to identify gaps and ensure every student experiences a well-planned curriculum.

To access planning insights, navigate to your school homepage and select Planning insights.
DP planning insights are organized by year group. On landing, you will see a table listing DP 1 and DP 2, each showing the year group, associated grade, and number of students. Click a row to open insights for that year group. All data within that session is scoped to the selected year group.
After selecting a year group, you will see the following sections in the left sidebar:

At the bottom of the left pane, you will find Manage courses and units, which allows you to configure which courses and units are included in planning insights.
Let’s learn about these insights in detail.
View by department
View by department lets coordinators and department heads analyze how each DP subject group addresses curriculum elements within the selected year group. The landing page displays all subject groups as cards. Click any card to open the detailed view for that department.
The tabs available in the department view are:
Learner profile attributes Unit
The Unit tab shows all units within the selected department as a structured table. The table includes all standard DP template fields and any custom fields your school has added.
Use the following controls:
Use the search bar to find a unit by keywords. Use Sort to sort classes and units alphabetically, by created date, or by last modified date. You can also select Apply to all views to carry the sort order across all insight views. Use Configure columns to show or hide and reorder specific unit information. Click any unit title to open the full unit planner in a new tab.
Note: To explore insights for other departments, use the dropdown next to the department title to switch departments.
Connections
The Connections tab shows how the different types of cross-curricular connections are integrated across courses, units, and tasks in the selected department.
Use the left panel to navigate between connection types. Click any category to scroll directly to that section. Each type is displayed as a separate table. Connection items appear as rows, which can be expanded to view sub-items where applicable.
Use the toggle to switch between count modes:
Course count: how many courses include the element Unit count: how many units include the element Task count (ATL connections only): how many assessments and learning experiences address the element Click any count to open a pop-up listing the contributing courses, units, or tasks.
Learner profile attributes are tracked in the same way as connections: each attribute shows a course count, unit count, and task count across the year group. Click any count to view the contributing courses, units, or tasks.
Note: Custom datasets follow the same view as connections, showing course and unit counts only. Task counts are not available for custom datasets. Custom datasets must be enabled by a school administrato and included in planning insight calculations.
View by subject
View by subject lets you analyze planning and coverage at the individual subject level. The landing page displays all subjects offered in the selected year group. Use Search or Filter to locate specific subjects. Click a subject card to open its detailed view.
The tabs available at the top of the subject view are:

The Unit tab shows all units within the selected subject as a structured table. The table includes all standard DP template fields and any custom fields your school has added.
Use the following controls:

Aims
The Aims tab shows the subject-specific learning goals defined by the IB and how each one is addressed across courses and units in the selected subject.
Use the toggle to switch between Course count and Unit count Use the search bar to find a specific aim Click any count to view the contributing courses or units The Assessment objectives tab follows the same structure and controls as the Aims tab.
Connections
The Connections tab shows how 6 types of cross-curricular connections are integrated across courses, units, and tasks in the selected subject. Use the left panel to navigate between connection types. Each type is displayed as a separate table. Connection items appear as rows, which can be expanded to view sub-items where applicable.
Use the toggle to switch between Course count and Unit count. For ATL connections, a Task count is also available. Use Configure columns to show or hide and reorder specific fields. Click any count to view contributing courses, units, or tasks.
Syllabus content
The Syllabus content tab shows the IB-prescribed syllabus topics and sub-topics for the selected subject and how each one is addressed in your school’s planning.
The left panel displays the hierarchical syllabus structure: topics and their sub-topics. The main table shows:
Tags column: SL and HL indicators for each item Addressed column: a green checkmark indicates the topic is addressed in at least one unit; a grey cross indicates it has not yet been covered Click any topic row to view the units that address it.
Standards
The Standards tab shows how subject-specific standards are addressed across classes within the selected year group for the selected subject. Rows represent individual standards, which can be expanded to view sub-standards.
For each standard or sub-standard, you can track:
Associated courses: the number of courses that address the standard Associated units: the number of units aligned to the standard Tasks planned: draft assessments not yet assigned to students Tasks taught: assessments that have been assigned to students Use the search bar to find a specific standard. Use Configure columns to show or hide or reorder information in the table.
Learner profile attributes are tracked in the same way as Connections: each attribute shows a course count, unit count, and task count for the selected subject. Click any count to view the contributing courses, units, or tasks.
Note: Custom datasets follow the same view as connections, showing course and unit counts only. Task counts are not available for custom datasets.
Horizontal overview
Horizontal overview gives coordinators a complete picture of the student experience across all subjects in the selected year group. The landing page displays cards for Unit, Connections, Learner profile attributes, and any custom datasets enabled at your school. Click a card to open that view.
Unit
The Unit view shows all units across all subjects and departments in the selected year group as a structured table. The left panel lists all subjects and courses.
Use the following controls:
Use Configure columns to show or hide specific fields Use Filter to narrow the table by department, subject, or other criteria Use Sort to organize units by your preferred criteria Click any unit title to open the full unit planner in a new tab.
Note: To explore other horizontal insights, use the dropdown next to the section title to switch between Unit, Connections, and Learner profile attributes.
Connections (TOK Connections, CAS Connections…)
The Connections view shows how each connection type is distributed across all departments and subjects in the selected year group.
The left panel lists all connection categories. Click any category to scroll directly to that section. Each category is displayed as its own table:
Rows represent individual connection items, which can be expanded to view sub-items Columns represent departments or subjects, depending on your selected view The Total units/Total courses column shows the total unique coverage across all departments or subjects Use the View by dropdown to switch between Department and Subject perspectives. Use the toggle to switch between Course count and Unit count. For ATL connections, a Task count is also available. Use Configure columns to show or hide departments or subjects. Click any number to view the contributing courses, units, or tasks.
Learner profile attributes are tracked in the same way as connections: each attribute shows how it is distributed across departments and subjects in the year group, with a course count, unit count, and task count. Click any count to view the contributing courses, units, or tasks.
Note: Custom datasets appear as cards on the Horizontal overview landing page and follow the same view as connections, showing course and unit counts only. Task counts are not available for custom datasets.
View by course
View by course provides a detailed view of planning and coverage within a specific course. The landing page lists all courses in the selected year group. Use Search or Filter to locate a specific course. Click any course to open its detailed view.

View by class displays a complete list of all classes in your curriculum. Click a class name to open detailed class-level insights.

For each Learner profile attribute, you can track the same data as Standards: associated units, tasks planned, tasks taught, and tasks assessed. Click any count to view the contributing units or tasks.
Timeline
The Timeline tab shows all units within the selected class in a chronological timeline across the current academic year.
Each block represents a unit, showing the number of weeks allocated to it Hover over any block to see the exact start and end dates Use the search bar to locate a unit quickly Click a unit name to open its full unit page Note: Custom datasets follow the same view as connections, showing course and unit counts only. Task counts are not available for custom datasets.
View by student
View by student lets you review the planned curriculum experience for each individual student. The landing page displays all students in your school. Use the search bar or grade filter to find a specific student.
Note: View by student is available to school administrators only.
Click a student name to open their detailed insights. The data shown reflects only units from courses the student is enrolled in.
The tabs available are:

Note: All fields inside a unit planner are included in the insights, including any custom fields added by the school.
