How can I navigate and manage my class tasks as an educator?

Last edited 156 days ago by Prerna Singh.
Toddle offers flexible ways to access and organize your class tasks, whether you're inside a class or browsing from the homepage. These views help you monitor progress, review work, and stay updated on student activity. Read this article to learn about it in detail.

Navigate to Assignments

You can access your class assignments through multiple navigation points:

From within a class

From your homepage, scroll to the Courses and classes area.
Select the course/class you want to work with.
Once inside, go to the Assignments tab of the relevant class from the left navigation pane.

From the Assignments widget on the homepage

If the Assignments widget is enabled, you can view and open all your class assignments directly from the homepage.
Note: For the widget to appear on your homepage, you must enable it from the profile dropdown at the top right. By default, this widget will be disabled.

From the ‘Assignments manager’ card on the homepage

If the Assignments widget has been disabled from the homepage, you will see a card for ‘Assignments manager’ instead. Click on it to view assignments across all the classes you teach.
The Assignments manager view is similar to the Class Assignments page, except for a few key differences covered in the next section.

Assignments manager vs Class Assignments page

There are two key differences between the Assignments manager on the home page and the Class Assignments page:
Assignment list: In the Assignments manager, you can view assignments across all the classes you are teaching, whereas in the class Assignments page, only the assignments for the specific class are displayed.
‘Classes’ filter: In the Assignments manager, you can apply a ‘Classes’ filter to view assignments from one or more classes you are teaching. The class associated with each assignment appears as a column in the table view and as subtext in the card view.
Tags: Tags are not available in the Assignments manager, as they are specific to individual classes.
Note: Other than these differences, both views share the same overall layout and functionality. Any view preferences, display settings, or filters you apply in the Assignments manager or the class Assignments page will be retained across both views, ensuring a consistent experience.

Explore the Assignments Page

View and manage class tasks

The Assignments page gives you a full view of all tasks in a class. Assignments are grouped into tabs based on their current status. You can switch between these tabs using the left pane.

All tab

The ‘All’ tab provides a consolidated list of all published assignments that are either in progress (‘To review’) or completed (‘Reviewed’). By default, these tasks are sorted based on their creation date (most recent first). Drafts and scheduled assignments are excluded from this tab to maintain a focused view.

To-review

The To-review tab displays all tasks that have new student submissions pending your review or evaluation. This helps you quickly identify assignments that require your attention.
Assignments in this tab are shown in the following order: upcoming due dates first, then overdue tasks, followed by tasks with no due date.

Reviewed

This tab contains the tasks that have been reviewed. By default, these tasks are sorted based on their due date. You can move a task to the ‘Reviewed’ tab in any of the following ways:
Hover over a task card and click the ‘Move to reviewed’ icon on the right side. This instantly updates the task status to Reviewed.
Open the three-dot menu next to the task and select ‘Move to reviewed’ from the options.
When you mark a task as evaluated or completed, you’ll automatically get the option to move it to the ‘Reviewed’ tab.
Additionally, you can use the ‘Move to To-review’ icon or the three-dot menu against any task to move it back to the 'To-review' category tab if further action is required. When additional students submit their work for a reviewed assignment, it automatically reappears in the ‘To review’ tab.

Scheduled

This tab contains all class tasks that are scheduled but not yet assigned to the students. By default, these tasks are sorted based on their open date in descending order, i.e., the date when students can begin working on the assignment.

Drafts

This tab contains all tasks that are currently saved as drafts. By default, these tasks are sorted based on their creation date.

Unread messages

This tab displays tasks that contain unread messages from students. By default, these tasks are sorted based on the message date.
The most recent message appears as subtext below each assignment, allowing you to quickly spot communication that needs your attention. Recent messages show how long ago they were received (for example, “1m ago”), while older updates display the exact date.

Customize the Assignments View

There are various features available on the ‘Assignments’ page to help you customise your view, track progress, and manage tasks efficiently. Let’s explore each of them in detail.

View switcher

Card view: This view presents assignments in a vertical, card-based format. It is ideal for quickly browsing through assignments without the need for extensive data analysis.
Note: This is the default view set for all users.
Table view: This view offers a structured format, displaying all key assignment components in a column layout. It is ideal when you are working with a large volume of assignments and require deeper insights at a glance.

Adjust display settings

Use the ‘Display settings’ to adjust the visible components for assignments. The applied changes are reflected in both the card and table views for Assignments. You can configure unique display settings for each of the tabs on the left pane (To review, Reviewed, Scheduled, etc.).
By default, a set of display settings will be enabled for each of the tabs; however, you can customize them to your preferences. Choose your preferred tab and configure the following settings:
Assignment details: Controls visibility for fields such as due date, open/close date, associated unit, grading period, and assessment category for each assignment.
Status count: Controls count visibility for assigned, pending, submitted, evaluated, completed, and shared assignments.

Tags: Using this setting, you can show tags as a column (for table view)/with the assignment details (for card view), in the side navigation or hide them entirely from the page.
Note: You can create and manage tags only if they are displayed in the side navigation. Refer to to learn more about tags.
Sort by: Use this setting to sort assignments by creation date, due date, or open/close date, with the ability to order them in ascending or descending order using the arrow icon.

Apply filters

For improved assignment tracking, use the filters available at the top:
Grading periods: View assignments tagged to one or more grading periods/terms or across all collectively. By default, the current grading period is selected.
Added by: View assignments created by you or specific teachers tagged to the selected class. By default, only the assessments you have created are displayed.

Use tags

Tags help you group class tasks into categories such as Homework, Classwork, or Daily tasks. They appear in the left pane of the Assignments page and help you quickly filter and organise tasks. To view tasks linked to a specific tag, simply click on the tag in the left pane.
You can also manage tags directly from the ‘Assignments’ landing page by clicking the gear icon in the left pane.
Note: Task grouping by status (e.g., Draft, To-review, Scheduled) is independent of grouping by tags. A task can appear under a tag as well as under one of the status categories simultaneously.
Group 5899.jpg
On this screen, you can view all existing tags, including the number of tasks associated with them and the creator's details.
You can create new tags by clicking the ‘Create a new tag’ button. While creating a tag, you will be prompted to provide a name and choose a color for easy identification. For existing tags, use the three-dot menu to edit or delete them.

In addition to the detailed Assignments page, you can also get a quick overview of your tasks right from the homepage through the Assignment widget.

View tasks through the Assignment widget

The Assignments widget offers a quick snapshot of all your tasks across classes, helping you monitor key updates without opening the full Assignments manager. You can switch between four tabs to check task status at a glance:
All tab
The ‘All’ tab gives you a complete overview of all published assignments that are either in progress (‘To review’) or completed (‘Reviewed’). Drafts and scheduled tasks are excluded to keep this view clean and relevant.
Group 5901.jpg
To review the tab
The ‘To review’ tab focuses solely on assignments that have new student submissions pending your attention.
When you hover over a task, you will see a ‘Move to reviewed’ icon that allows you to quickly mark the task as reviewed.
Group 5902.jpg
Unread tab
The ‘Unread’ tab lists all assignments that contain unread student messages or updates, helping you respond promptly to ongoing communication.
The timestamps show how long ago a message was received (for example, “1m ago”).
For older updates, the exact date is displayed instead.
Scheduled tab
The ‘Scheduled’ tab shows all assignments that you have scheduled for future release to students. Assignments here are sorted based on their open date in descending order, allowing you to preview upcoming tasks and make edits before publishing them.
Group 5903 (1).jpg
Each assignment card clearly displays key details, including:
Class name, along with due date (if not passed), close date (if the due date is passed), or no date (if not defined).
Submission, evaluation, and sharing status below the assignment title.
A ‘New’ tag for assignments with new student submissions, helping you quickly spot what needs review.
Use the filter icon on the widget to narrow down tasks by grading period, classes, or teacher. The ‘Added by’ filter helps you view assignments created by you or the other teachers mapped to your classes.
Additionally, you can click the ‘expand’ icon on the widget to open the Assignments manager, where you can view all assignments across your classes in detail.
