Donna Bell Koon and Sabrina Johnson in the Activity Room (with tables).
5-6 mins | Finding the Practice in the Bible (pg 38)
for your reference. You’ll use it in a limited way this week. The activities are not my favorite. Start your class with the Finding the practice in the Bible. The Biblical Storytelling is short and only a few verses long.
Note: It could be fun to frame the opening question in as someone from history / celebrity / family member. lots of cues you can give them. It might be helpful to make a big, visible list on the chalkboard! Move through this part swiftly but intentionally so enough time remains for the activity.
Then transition to the creative response.

Instructions
Explanation (2 minutes): Explain that kids are going to create a 'Communion Placemat' for their table at their home. Kids can sit at the tables. Spread kids out to where there is enough room for everyone to work with a lot of material.
a. Step One (10 minutes): Hand out two thin cardboard placemats and large stencils of foods. Ask the children to trace the foods onto the placemats using pencil.
b. Step Two (10 minutes): Once the foods are traced, provide a sharpie for kids to trace their stencil shape. Collect the sharpies. Next, use crayons or dry pastels for children to color the shapes in. If they use pastels, guide them to an adult to have their work sprayed lightly with a fixative. Put your paper in front of the fan for 10 seconds so the fixative can dry.
c. Step Three (5 minutes): Distribute the pre-cut words of mealtime prayers. Invite children to choose words that resonate with them and glue them onto their placemats.
d. Step Four (2 minutes): Hand out food group stickers, encouraging kids to place them around their placemats as a final touch.
Sharing (5 minutes): If the class is done, sit them down in a circle, and allow a few children to share their placemats, explaining why they chose the words and stickers they did.
