Instructions
Explanation (2 minutes): Explain that kids are going to create a 'Communion Parament' for the worship table at Overbrook. A parament is a special table covering we use during worship. Next week when you come for communion, you’ll see it on the altar.
Spread kids around the 6’ table on the floor, where there is a taped piece of brown kraft paper. Everyone needs space between themself.
a. Step One (10 minutes): Hand out two thin cardboard placemats and large stencils of foods. Ask the children to trace the outlines of foods onto the parament using the wax china markers.
b. Step Two (5 minutes): Next, use crayons or dry pastels for children to color the shapes in.
c. Step Three (5 minutes): Distribute the pre-cut words associated with mealtime. Invite children to choose words that resonate with them and glue them onto their placemats.
d. Step Four (5 minutes): Hand out food group stickers, encouraging kids to place them around their placemats as a final touch.
Sharing (5 minutes): If the class is done, sit them down in a circle, and allow a few children to share their placemats, explaining why they chose the words and stickers they did.
10 mins | Finding the Practice all Around Us (pg 40)
We’ll take a trip down to the service room to store the parament and look at the other communion elements.
Then, we’ll retire to the chapel for dismissal.
