Greetings from the Incoming Chair of CFM: Molly Andrews Burke

August 23rd, 2023
Dear Members of the CFM Committee, and Overbrook Presbyterian Church,
I'm honored to accept this role as Chairperson of the CFM Committee. I see this as an opportunity for me to mature as a person and grow in my faith as I work alongside Anthony, members of the committee, and the broader OPC community.
The transition from Christy's time as committee chairperson to my time is a passing of the baton. I encourage our OPC community to listen to a recent podcast that features :

For me, this lecture is a literal baton handed to me from Christy. As I listened to this lecture, my vision for my role as the new chairperson of CFM became more and more clear.
Christy encourages us all to practice beholding the invisible. She states that it is wonder that stirs our imaginations and punctures our small worldviews so that we can all experience the depth of our very existence, interconnected with others in a living and active faith in God.
I take Christy's wisdom and doxological thinking as a pathway for my leadership to pursue the topics of inspiration - wonder - imagination - and faith as they apply to the ministry pointed toward children and families at Overbrook.
This summer, while I listened to Christy's lecture, I was also reading My Bright Abyss by Christian Wiman. He writes, "Innocence for the believer remains the only condition in which intellectual truths can occur, and wonder is the precondition for all wisdom." Furthermore, Wiman says, "Human imagination is not simply our means of reaching out to God but God's means of manifesting himself to us."
I can't wait to engage the children and their families in practices that welcome and teach wonder, imagination and faith! Yours in faith,
Molly Andrews Burke
