"VWL" stands for "Volkswirtschaftslehre," which is the German term for economics, specifically macroeconomics. It refers to the study of economies or economic systems and the way in which economic agents interact and the economies function. VWL typically covers broad aspects such as national income, distribution of output, and general economic growth across countries. In an academic context, especially within German universities, VWL might be a required area of foundational knowledge for various study programs related to business, finance, and economics.

Eligibility assessment process for master programs
Open
Open
In some master programs, a so-called eligibility assessment process decides whether one may be admitted to the desired program. On the one hand, your university degree (e.g. bachelor degree) qualifies you for the desired program; on the other hand, suitability in these cases must be verified by additional, specific knowledge or skills. Additional selection criteria can include, for example: special foreign language skills, particularly good skills in specialized areas of study in the previous (bachelor) program, internships and others. They can be determined either based on submitted application documents or in selection interviews.

The process you're asking about refers to how study places are allocated at universities that have more applicants than available spots for certain subjects, using what is termed a "Local Numerus Clausus (NC)" system. Here's a simplified explanation:
Open
Open
Open
Open
1. **Local Numerus Clausus (NC)**:
Open
Open
- This is a type of admission restriction applied locally by a university for specific courses that have limited capacity.
Open
Open
Open
Open
2. **Distribution of Study Places**:
Open
Open
- Study places for courses with a local NC are divided based on different criteria after setting aside a certain number of seats for specific groups (like foreign applicants).
Open
Open
- **20%** of seats are given based on the grade of your university entrance qualification (like Abitur in Germany).
Open
Open
- **80%** of seats are distributed through the university's own selection process (known as "AdH" or Selection Process of the Higher Education Institutions).
Open
Open
Open
Open
3. **Detailed Breakdown of the AdH**:
Open
Open
- Within the AdH, **20%** of the places are allocated purely based on university entrance qualification scores.
Open
Open
- The remaining **60%** are allocated based on a combination of entrance qualification scores and a waiting period, up to a maximum of seven semesters.
Open
Open
- Candidates are ranked in a scoring system where they can score up to 100 points.
Open
Open
Open
Open
4. **Supplementary Criteria**:
Open
Open
- Universities have the flexibility to incorporate additional selection criteria like aptitude tests or relevant work experience instead of just waiting time, if they choose to set this in their specific regulations for the course.
Open
Open
Open
Open
This system allows universities to manage admissions more effectively by considering both academic qualifications and other relevant factors, providing a fair chance to diverse applicants. It's designed to select students who are not only academically qualified but also well-rounded individuals suited to the program's profile.
Open
Open
Open
Open
* The waiting period refers to the time a student has been out of school without securing a spot in higher education. Each semester of waiting up to seven semesters can potentially improve a student's chance of admission. This system aims to balance the opportunity between immediate school leavers and those who might have been working, traveling, or engaging in other educational pursuits post-high school

Solving problems in online tests
Open
Open
Open
Open
Using online learning modules and online tests on our PreCampus portal, you will work on basic calculus and simple standard issues from the high school math curriculum. In this way, each participant can work on the problems at their own pace and identify the knowledge gaps they still need to close. It is especially important to work on this part carefully because the contents presented here will be considered a given in the face-to-face section of the preliminary course.
Open

You should therefore give yourself sufficient time for completing the online tests. Two weeks would be ideal. It is extremely important that you complete the online test before the lectures and tutorials of the preliminary course begin.

In this section, we will refresh more difficult topics from the high school math curriculum and highlight some contexts for their application. In addition, we will apply the contents covered in the online tests. Links between the various mathematical topics will be explained in detail and there will be plenty of room for practicing the concepts you have learned. The focus is on applying your knowledge to solve problems. This part of the preliminary course consists of daily lectures and tutorials (on workdays). Note that we will not repeat the contents of the online tests!
Open
Open
Open
Open
The entire preliminary course is designed to give you the opportunity to repeat those contents of high school mathematics that you will be expected to know as a university student and to learn how to transfer them to different contexts of application.
Open
Open
Open
Open
Take advantage of the opportunity to complete both parts of the preliminary course with dedication. This will make it much easier for you to begin your studies. Be prepared for the fact that at university level, all mathematical aspects will be considered in a more abstract manner than what you were used to in high school. That is why it is crucial that you have your high school math ready and that you have practiced those math skills extensively.

In some master programs, a so-called eligibility assessment process decides whether one may be admitted to the desired program. On the one hand, your university degree (e.g. bachelor degree) qualifies you for the desired program; on the other hand, suitability in these cases must be verified by additional, specific knowledge or skills. Additional selection criteria can include, for example: special foreign language skills, particularly good skills in specialized areas of study in the previous (bachelor) program, internships and others. They can be determined either based on submitted application documents or in selection interviews.

We require you to provide proof of completion of a relevant bachelor's degree programme in the field of economics or geography or proof of a comparable domestic or foreign professional qualification degree.
In the comparable university degree, basic knowledge of economics or geography must be demonstrated. Knowledge of the social sciences can be brought in parts.
The course requires a completed B.Sc. degree in the fields of Economics, Business Administration, or Geography (Human and/or Physical). Students with Social Science degrees with an economic or geographic focus also satisfy the requirements ().
Students with a commensurate qualification can apply, too. A commensurate Bachelor degree is defined as follows:
at least 50 ECTS credits were obtained in conceptual or academic modules. Out of these 30 ECTS credits must refer to Economics or Geography content. Up to 20 ECTS credits may be completed in a social science course.
additionally, 10 ECTS credits must have been completed in the field of research methods, including Quantitative and Qualitative Empirical Research Methods, Empirical Economic Research, Econometrics, Mathematics, Statistics, and Cartography. This refers to obtaining knowledge of these methods, rather than their application

The required knowledge is available if the corresponding degree proves at least 50 credit points (LP) in technical principles. Of the 50 CP, at least 30 CPs in economics or geography (without method modules) must be shown, up to 20 CPs can be proven in the social sciences (without method modules).
In the completed degree programme, methodological competence in the form of at least 10 CP from the fields of qualitative research, mathematics, statistics, econometrics, cartography, empirical social research or empirical economic research must have been produced. Proof of the teaching of the knowledge from these areas must be provided, not through their application, since the master's programme is rather research-oriented.
The examination board may combine admission with the requirement that additional academic achievements and/or examination results are achieved by a maximum of 30 credits. In this case, the course can be extended accordingly.

b) Supplementary subject-related qualifications (maximum 6 points).

One point is awarded each for proof of a semester abroad and for proof of an active, voluntary activity of at least one year relevant to the course of study.
Up to two points are awarded in the following way for proof of a course-related internship: At least two months duration 1 point At least six months Duration 2 points
Up to two points will be awarded in the following in the following for the proof of a sound knowledge of economic or social science methodological knowledge in the fields of qualitative research, mathematics, statistics, econometrics, cartography, empirical social research and/or empirical economic research beyond the required 10 credit points: Additional knowledge of methods in the scope of 12 CP - 1 point Additional methodological knowledge of 14 CP 2 points
