The palette of Urban Enclaves illustrates an oasis by having a focal blue that is surrounded by lush greenery and calm.
The primary blue has been matched with the aptly named Cebu Seas from Boysen’s color samples. It exudes a lasting depth and stability while still illustrating the image of an oasis with the palette. Secondary colors provide a foundation for Cebu Seas, while brighter accent colors help brighten the palette.
that are totally exact but resemble the colors closest.
The following Boysen Color options available have been chosen from what matches the brand colors’ pantone codes closest from the selection on the Boysen website. Other paint colors and swatches may still be available outside the site. Treat the Boysen Color Names and Codes as references for architects and contractors to match the swatches to the best possible paint ideal for use on Urban Enclaves.
Color Hierarchy
Internal Use and Representation
For internal brand applications such as business cards and official documents, lead with Cebu Skies. Olive and Forest may also be also be used, but priority should be on using Cebu Skies to help establish its role in the hierarchy of colors.
Marketing and External-facing Brand Materials
For marketing efforts, use mainly the Primary Colors of the palette. The colors, especially Cebu Skies in particular, helps distinguish the look of Urban Enclaves from its competitors early on through color alone.
Space
Be strategic in using the full palette of the brand. It is advised to use more of the neutral-leaning colors such as the shades of green (Olive and Forest) and yellow (Sand and Pale Ochre) over Cebu Skies on this case to help give more weight to Cebu Skies when it is used. Prioritize what will work best in a space in terms of how it would look against the surroundings and also longevity, or which colors would Urban Enclaves be most willing to commit to long term.
The look need not be as striking or bold visually since the narrative for the brand is still to make the Enclaves feel like a respite from the busyness of the city.
The main color of Urban Enclaves is visible here, but because it’s close to the sky it blends in unevenly with its background.
Forest may work better in this context as a color.
Wayfinding
If the neutral colors would be more appropriate for paint and space colors, Cebu Skies and the accent color Lime are recommended for signage. Because both of these are bright and draw attention, they make perfect indicators for guides or warnings for residents.
Cebu Skies may function better for directional signages, or signs residents will encounter more frequently, while Lime is better fit for more dire warning signs.
Color Usage Guide
Contrast
Ensure that there is always enough contrast among the colors. Look out for readability and visibility for the colors of copy and visual elements.
The headline, body text, and background shapes are clearly readable and easily distinguishable.
There is enough contrast between Pale Ochre and Cebu Seas, and the headline is also readable, but the body text is hardly readable.
There is enough contrast between Off White and Mist, but neither the headline nor body text can be read.
Color Amount
For every layout or spread, have a maximum of three brand colors used simultaneously unless it is absolutely essential for the context of the layout to include more than three colors.
3 colors
There is clear hierarchy and focus in the layout.
4 colors
The two greens with the headline in Cebu Skies against the Black background makes the layout feel scattered. It breaks away from the goal of Urban Enclaves to feel like a place where you can thrive.
Color with Photography
Be strategic when selecting color for elements placed over photos, and framing photos to help them house text and graphics.
Selection a portion of the photo where there is enough negative space for text to stand out well.
No color will be a good fit against this photo because it’s made up of several colors which the text can bleed into.
Body text is also very hard to read. In these situations, it is best to keep the photo in a container and have only the headline text over it. The body text may need to be placed in a separate, solid colored frame or area of the layout.
Color Combinations
The following are combinations of colors with graphics and text that are not advisable for reasons regarding visibility and creative direction regarding the mood and values of the Urban Enclaves brand.
For some combinations of background colors and specifically only when these colors are used as background graphics for layout, they may still be allowed provided they behave as backgrounds. In these two examples, the contrast is very minimal. Because the two colors feel like they’re blending into each other, they can be used to house content.
This combination however is never advisable because Sand and Mist naturally visually bleed into each other regardless of scale and content.
