Proof of Concept
Shows that a concept or a mechanic is feasible or viable in any way.
Feasibility Study
Study to explore whether something is feasible. A Proof of Concept might be part of this.
Prototype
Usually goes beyond one concept or mechanic and usually aims to show the viability of the full gameplay loop.
Minimal Viable Product
Has just enough functionality and quality that a customer would be willing to pay for it. Sometimes called a minimal viable experience to indicate that support services and other aspects outside the application might also be needed at this point.
Vertical Slice
A small part of a full game (such as one level) that is already in a production-level state. Usually, the rest of the game is not in that state yet. Used for convincing investors or for marketing purposes.
Demo
A small part of a full game (such as one level) that is already in a production-level state. Usually, the rest of the game is also in that state. Used for convincing players.
Horizontal Slice
A full game content-wise, but still in a prototypical stage in all other aspects. Used to show off the game's content, e.g. when narrative is important.
Early Access
A small part of a full game, or an unfinished/unpolished game, that is already available to buy. Buyers are promised to get access to the final version.
