Improvement option evaluation including payback and carbon cost effectiveness assessment


This section looks at the measures in your proposed improvement plan and calculates the carbon cost effectiveness and the payback in years of each option, basically how much it costs to save a tonne of carbon. I have taken the figures from the previous page and added in the possible lifetime of the product based on guarantees offered. This lifetime figure is multiplied by the yearly CO2 saving to give a lifetime CO2 saving. The lifetime CO2 saving is then divided by the cost of the measure to give the cost per tonne of carbon saved. In addition the cost of the measure has been divided by the annual fuel bill saving
Costs of installation are estimated, they are included to help you understand relative costs of different measures. These costs based on industry rates for similar work, these can become out of date quite quickly particularly with the challenging market conditions of the last few years. These are not competitive quotations actual costs may be higher or lower, they do not include any grants or incentives that you may be eligible for.
The figures can be updated with further details as the project gets further down the line and you get actual quotes for the work. The lifetime figure is an estimate based on the guarantees offered by installers, insulation may last a lot longer in reality. Ventilation is excluded from the calculation unless you opt for an MVHR system.
The measures listed here were selected using the Parity Projects Crohm system which provides a dynamic database of the measures. The measures have been selected based on the intended options, carbon cost effectiveness, simple payback and funding available to reach this combination of measures and phasing.
