Terrain Analysis

March 25

The main focus of this lab was getting comfortable with ArcGIS Pro's terrain analysis tools, particularly when it came to working with trails and topographic data. The biggest challlenge was creating a product that was digestible to a normal viewer.
A few of the key maps are worth highlighting. Figure 1 shows the Road Profile, which gives a good sense of the overall layout and sets up what the final product is trying to communicate. Figure 2 zooms in on the Brush Valley Creek Watershed, narrowing the focus to the specific area being analyzed and giving the maps some geographic grounding.
The part that took the most effort was putting together the Visibility and Elevation Profiles in Figure 3. It wasn't just one tool — it meant pulling several things together and being pretty intentional about what I was trying to show before even getting started. That trial-and-error process of figuring out the right workflow was frustrating at times, but it's also where most of the real learning happened.
Overall this was a solid lab for continuing to build confidence in ArcGIS Pro. The more time spent in the software, the more natural it starts to feel, and that's ultimately what's going to matter most going forward.
