Lab 07 - DATX Setup and Modification

Summary

Our objective in this lab was to modify the DATX controller’s hardware and software to Windracers’ standards. The existing/base Taranis controllers had extra switches and default firmware, which introduced unnecessary complexity. The hardware and software modifications we did were in line with WIndracers’ instructions, and we also bound and soldered the TBS Nano RX. We did this lab as a group, splitting the workload of hardware and software modifications between members.
Hardware Modifications
Hunter and Lucas identified which switches needed to be removed, then opened the shell of the controller and moved them from their regular mounts on the outside of the controller to be glued out of the way internally, though not disconnected electrically in case we choose to re-install them in the future. They then reassembled the controller to match the WIndracers’ example - Ignition, flaps, autopilot/flight modes, and brakes switches. These modifications are designed to reduce the number of false inputs, as well as to remove controls that aren’t relevant to our application of this controller.
Software Modification/Config
We reflashed firmware from OpenTX to EdgeTX 2.7.1, verified that it installed correctly, and verified that the parameters/settings met Windracers’ standard.
