Step 2: Group the Words
Once you have the set of keywords that resonate with you, the next step is to group all of them into similar themes.
Do it in a way that makes sense to you. Create a maximum of five groups. I try to target three or four.
Then, select the word in each column that resonates the most with you. Check out the example below to help guide you!
Step 3: Group the Words
Based on the list of keyword groupings, select one word per column that best resonates with you! This word is representative of the entire column. Circle it. Don’t overthink it, there is no right or wrong answer.
Step 5: Crafting Your North Star Statement
Your North Star Statement is a clear and concise declaration of who you are and what guides you in both your personal and professional life. Think of it as a compass, pointing you in the direction of your true purpose, aligning your actions with your core values.
A well-crafted North Star Statement helps you stay focused during uncertain times and navigate transitions with clarity and intention. It brings together your core values and your life’s deeper purpose, acting as a constant reminder of what truly matters to you.
To craft your North Star Statement, simply follow the template below.
Step 6: Living Your Values Now that you’ve crafted your North Star Statement, it’s time to put your core values into action. This step is about aligning your day-to-day life with the values that define you, ensuring that your decisions, priorities, and goals are a direct reflection of what truly matters to you. In a recent podcast, I was asked to share my perspective on this. Here's how I look at bringing this to life in your own world:
"What do I need to do?
Yeah, I think there's really, I root myself in like two things.
The first one is what are your core values?
Like if you can sit down, identify what your three core values are. I've got an exercise. I think I have it on my site.
You can go to it and you basically circle these keywords that just resonate with you and then you.
Explore from there.
You know, what are the definitions of the word, those words?
Do they actually, did they drive, they truly drive with who you are.
And then you take those and you narrow it down to like, what are the themes that come from there? And what are the three to five core values that you have no more than that.
And then from there, you would now have like a directional compass of like, how do you want to live your life?
Because if a decision comes up and it doesn't align with your, let's say four core values.
Then give yourself permission to say no to it and let it go."
