Getting the Padron
First 30 Days in Spain
Register Your Address (Empadronamiento)
Visit your local Ayuntamiento (city hall)
Bring: passport, rental contract, TIE appointment confirmation
This is a free service
Proves residency for accessing services
Attend Your TIE Biometric Appointment
Scheduled after approval
Bring: passport, approval letter, payment receipt
Your fingerprints and photo will be taken
Collect Your TIE Card
This is your physical residence card
It serves as your ID while in Spain
You must carry it at all times
Within the First 6 Months
Open a Spanish Bank Account
Bring: passport, TIE, empadronamiento, NIE
Useful for paying rent, bills, and daily expenses
Many banks accept non-residents, but it's easier with a TIE
Register for Taxes (if applicable)
Must be done within 6 months of arrival
Consider the Beckham Law (special tax regime)
Consult a tax advisor for optimization
