after we take our vision and turn it into action (the business), how else do we utilize this vision? in the analogy taken on this page, the fourth digit is the “quadrivium.” in ancient times,
meant the mastering the arts of numbers after having mastered the arts of words (the trivium). in our business it means mastering our “trades” (quadrivium) after having internalized our vision (trivium). from data science and creating biz plans to designers working on branding, the intention is to make a communal space where people can develop their skills collectively.
::theory::
quadrivium. what is the quadrivium? Originally it was the study of mathematics after the foundations of language (the trivium) were established. In this analogy - the foundations of our language is our board (where we get our vision). from there we proceed to application - or action (using our noodles to turn a creative vision into creative and productive collaboration on projects).
asabiyyah: to build community is one thing. the second thing is that the community has to be right. after all terrorists have their communities, and so do gangs in inner cities. community has to have a direction. we are already catering to a specialized community - inviting them to bring their skills, creativity, and passion. i think we can rest assured that no drug dealers or rhino horn poachers will try to join our organization and steer our community.
so given we have something good, how do we maintain it and make it better? the subtitle of this page is the ”learning organization”. Peter Senge in his book, “the Vth,” states that continual learning is the corner stone of a “learning organization” (the subtitle of his manus opus on biz mnmt is “the art and practice of the learning organization). as putting the creative vision to work is critical, creating new professional skills and solutions also opens doors. that’s why the next session outlines our endeavor to create a platform for all collaborators to work together on their professional skills - uniting personal mastery, mental models, and shared vision together in a place to innovate and enhance professional skills.
::application::
we want to build what Peter Senge calls the “learning organization.” to build a learning organization, there has to be learning. for most organizations, that means more and more (mostly) useless seminars, courses, and computer modules (I might be getting overly cynical). for us - the vision is - to link your journey of personal mastery of your professional skill with other people on the same journey. that means a platform for learning - in an open source style.
in terms of application. there are two strata: application & theory. there are three
“fields”: biz skills, code skills, and data science skills. the goal is to build a platform with both strata for each of the three fields; creating a robust structure and center for all people to play with applied skill and theoretical development.
