# A Day on the Mountain
Today was a very strange and exciting day. Aunt Dete and I walked up, up, up a mountain path. It was a sunny morning in June, but I felt so warm! Dete made me wear two dresses, a red woolen shawl, and thick mountain-shoes because she didn't want to carry them. It made walking very hard, and I kept feeling hot.
Then, I saw a boy climbing up a different path with his goats. He was a young goatherd and he only had on a pair of shorts. His feet were bare, and he moved so quickly and easily. I tried to follow him, but my clothes were too heavy, and I got so tired.
So, I just sat down and took off my shoes and stockings. Then I took off the red shawl and both of my frocks! It felt so much better with just my light short-sleeved undergarment. I put all my clothes in a little pile and then I could climb much easier, leaping and skipping almost as nimbly as the goats.
Later, Aunt Dete saw me and she was very cross! She shouted about my missing two frocks and the red shawl, and the new shoes and stockings. I just pointed down the mountain where they were. She made the goatherd, whose name is Peter, go and get them. He went very quickly when Dete showed him a bright new coin.
We kept climbing and finally reached the top of the Alm mountain where my grandfather's hut was. Peter went off with his goats, and I said, "Good-evening, Grandfather". He looked at me very gruffly. Aunt Dete told him she had brought Tobias and Adelaide's child and that I would be staying with him. Then she left very quickly!
It was a long, hot day, but it felt wonderful to be able to run and jump without all those clothes. Meeting the goatherd was interesting, and I wonder what it will be like to live here with Grandfather.
